This year, for Halloween we brewed up some fun activities for local schoolchildren!
Sponsored by Pendle Hill Properties, a Draw Your Best Witch poster competition went out to all children at local primary schools surrounding Pendle Hill – 14 schools in total and more than 2000 sent out. Children took home the poster and drew the best witch they could possibly imagine, then returned them to be judged and win a top prize of £50!
There were hundreds of entries received, and the winners were judged to be
- £50 Winner - Charlie Bell, Higham St John's School
- £20 Winner - Macy Scarborough, Simonstone St Peters C of E School
- £10 Winner - Louisa Little, St John's Padiham
The second fun activity was a Trick or Treat Trail, running in 24 shops all down the main road in Padiham, and sponsored by Pendle Hill Properties, Simply Classic and Margins Insurance. A printed form was sent to all the schools and was available in the shops, and children had a week over half term to collect 10 stamps from the shops to enter a free prize draw! The lucky winners were:
- £100 Padiham vouchers – Oscar Clarke, Padiham
- 2 course meal for 4 people at the Lawrence voucher – Sicily-Kate Strahan, Hapton
- Chocolate bouquet – Orla Rawes, Padiham
Thirdly, the famous Padiham Rotary Sleigh was redesigned as a witch on a broomstick! The Rotary took the float around the local area, including parking at Padiham Tesco from 3-7 on Friday evening, 29th October; parking at A1 Motorstores on Saturday afternoon, 30th October before visiting the popular Halloween Party at Padiham Unitarian Church, and later making its way from the Fence Gate through the village of Fence. They also parked in the car park of the Barley Mow on Halloween, Sunday 31st October to see the many walkers up Pendle Hill on the day itself.
